Kitty Hawk - May 16-19, 2022
Given that we haven't been able to travel much for the past two years because of the pandemic, we've never seen most of North Carolina, or been farther east than Hickory. At the same time, my parent's 70th anniversary was coming up, and they honeymooned at Kitty Hawk.
So we decided to kill a couple of birds with one stone and take a trip to Kitty Hawk and make a couple of overnight stops on the way and way back.
We stopped the first night in Raleigh, near the edge of downtown, and stayed in the hip and minimalist Hotel 83.
We had an incredible dinner of tapas at the Barcelona Wine Bar.
After dinner, we walked around downtown and saw the State Capitol building... where all the gerrymandering is made.
The next day, we drove to the coast. The weather was gorgeous! Our first stop was the Kitty Hawk National Monument, where my parent's had stood 70 years before.
We had a wonderful lunch of crab and shrimp from a funky fish market and enjoyed the view of the ocean from our hotel room.
We were pretty tired when we got to Old Salem, so we just walked around briefly. It was very pretty!
We had a great meal at Meridian (the duck breast was amazing!), and then walked around Old Salem a bit more.
Overall, it was a wonderful trip, but I'm obviously not used to doing so much driving. We were pretty tired by the time we got home.
